This summer, she lives with us and we're partners in everything. *since we're the only two idle ones at home*
Mahjong, Sims 2, Katamari , baking, cooking ,cleaning , piano ,poker, Monopoly, Scrabble,Touhou, gym.... you get the picture. (:
See, just this (yesterday) morning we went to the gym and I decided to take this picture. *as if foreshadowing this blogpost*.
So today, as usual, we planned dinner. Hmm, Bak Kut Teh sounds good.... and being the two adventurous *and perhaps stupid* people, we somehow decided to make Yaw Char Kway.
It probably went something like this :
SY: let's make bak kut teh...:0
me: okay-lar...later can go buy yaw char kway.. >:)
SY: i saw the recipe. >=D.looks easy-wor... let's make lar! we have all the ingredients tooo.*and ntg to do anyway.....
me: Ya-ah?(0_0) okay lar..*sounds good!!*
*both planning and doing conversions from grams to cups*
So one of the steps was to heat the oil up to 380F... So the oil went in,.....and somehow, *we still dunno whether this is right or wrong* we put the cover on the wok. So whilst we were waiting....... suddenly, Sum Yin smelt something amiss... And she decided to open the wok. As soon as she did that smoke came fuming out and the wok was on fire! It was ON FIRE!!
You know how people burnt paper for the dead in a "tong"... The fire was like that, it was just dancing around in the wok!
And as usual, the oversensitive fire alarm went off. And when that bloody thing goes off, the fire engines will come, and the whole building will be angry with us and it will cost everyone trouble and money.
*now, play TITITITITITITTITITITITITITITIT in ur head as the background music of this..play*
So Sum Yin's first reaction was grab a magazine and fan the thing, i too opened all the doors. And then I decided to remove the wok-on-fire and bring it to the balcony.
Thanks to the cover, it was pretty safe, because the fire was INSIDE and the lid was protecting me. The only problem was that when I walked, the lid moved from side to side and each time it moves it lets out a gust of smoke which I inevitably *in the chaos* breathe in.
So out on the balcony, the wok was still burning. It was really as if we were burning paper for the dead. Sum Yin wanted to call my brother, and so she did. I was busy running around looking for a blanket and *i dunno who's idea it was* but we decided on taking towels. So I took mine *i chose the wrong towel...took the expensive new one.. >.<* and * we were quite hesitant to throw it onto the wok* , (you know lar, dunno whether it will burn into flames or what.).
me: throw it on?!?!?!!?
SY: dunno..... *still trying to reach my brother*
me: THROW IT ON??!!?!??!?
SY: aiya just throw it lar!
So i threw my lovely green towel onto the wok, and the thing went @psssssttttttt@....... And then I lifted it just alittle, by the edge of it, and the fire was smaller but it was still there. So Sum Yin brought her towel, her new towel as well, and threw it on...and before long, the whole thing was cold as if it was never burnt.
The wok looked somewhat like this :
I don't know if you can tell between the lid and the wok but the wok is the one with handles.
The lid WAS silver but now it's a uniform ....black.
And so even after everything was "peaceful"...we were still in shock. And then my brother called. a little too late. x) Upon thinking over it, I began to think that we were quite comical and funny. XD The way we acted, it was like in The Sims, (when something caught fire)... And the way I tripped clumsily over this and that.... x)
So the towels saved the day. And the lid, may be the cause of the fire but it aided us in keeping the fire in too. (:
What an experience. >=)
